New Raise and Lower Lighting System

Founded in Brixton in 1854, The City of London Freemen’s School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school providing education to approximately 850 pupils aged 7-18. It moved to Ashtead Park in 1926 and prided themselves on their Performing Arts facilities as reflected on their website.

‘A professional approach to theatre craft and integrity and truthfulness in performance is something that is encouraged by the beginning, and the outcome is that students have achieved some of the best examination results and created some of the very best theatre seen in UK schools in the last few years. ‘

The school were looking for a solution in the main hall for flexible lighting options to improve accessibility to enhance performances, for regular maintenance and to provide a solution for wheelchair users.

It was important to the school that the motorised hoist equipment was concealed in a new suspended ceiling.

We provided:

• Detailed  specification for a bespoke raise and lower system that fitted into a limited ceiling void.
• Increased the loading capacity to 200kg per bar.
• Replacement of existing fixed lighting bars.
• Re-hanging of school’s existing stage lanterns.
